UPDATE: 2nd Suspect in Tourist Kidnapping Investigation CHARGED

Maui police arrested and charged a second individual for their alleged connection to a tourist kidnapping and robbery at Nākālele Point earlier this month.

Police say Phillip Rosenthal, 37, of Lahaina was charged for all offenses including: Robbery in the First Degree, Kidnapping, Unauthorized Entry into a Motor Vehicle, Theft of Credit Card, Unauthorized Control of a Propelled Vehicle, Terroristic Threatening in the First Degree and Theft in the Second Degree.

Total bail was set at $500,000.  He is also being held on a separate “no bail” warrant for a parole violation.

Police say Rosenthal turned himself in to police on Thursday afternoon, shortly after authorities distributed his name and photo to media outlets. 

Maui police arrested 19-year-old Ashely Ramos, also of Lahaina in connection with the incident last week.  She was charged and was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Phillip Rosenthal, 37, of Lahaina turned himself in to police at around 1:10 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2017.

Rosenthal was wanted in connection to a Robbery investigation that occurred on March 15, 2017 at Nākālele Point in Lahaina.

Rosenthal was arrested on suspicion of Robbery in the First Degree, Kidnapping, Unauthorized Entry into a Motor Vehicle, Theft of Credit Card, Unauthorized Control of a Propelled Vehicle, Terroristic Threatening in the First Degree and Theft in the Second Degree.

Maui Police Lt. Gregg Okamoto said Rosenthal has not been charged and the investigation is on-going.

Last week, Maui police arrested Ashely Ramos, 19, of Lahaina in connection with the incident.  She was charged with Robbery in the First Degree, Unauthorized Entry into a Motor Vehicle, Unauthorized Control of a Propelled Vehicle, Terroristic Threatening in the First Degree and Kidnapping, and was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.  A preliminary hearing for Ramos has been set for Wednesday, April 12.

The Maui Police Department is asking for assistance in locating Phillip Rosenthal, 37, of Lahaina. Rosenthal is wanted for questioning in connection with a Robbery investigation.

Rosenthal is described as 5’5″ tall, 170 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes and tattoos on his face.

Rosenthal was last seen on March 30, 2017 getting into a grey Honda SUV in the north Kīhei area.
