Maui’s Zane Schweitzer Wins The Ultimate Waterman 2017
The Ultimate Waterman is a grueling test of strength, spirit, and skill, that takes place in the southland region of New Zealand. It challenges competitors to take on eight disciplines over nine days, and Zane Schweitzer of Lahaina, Maui has just become the champion for the second year in a row. He finished with an overall point total of 7250, a 340 point lead over second place.
In an interview with the contest organizers he expressed the result was due to hard work and knowledge passed down from his parents and grandparents. “I hope they are all so proud, because I’m proud and super grateful to keep on carrying the torch. I’m going to hold it humbly and proudly, and bring The Ultimate Waterman title back to Maui. As athletes, we want to always strive for excellence. It’s so important to learn from our past mistakes and past successes, and continue to be mindful, while we push ourselves to the max.”
With an attitude like that, it’s clear Zane excels in and out of the water. Connor Baxter of Maui was in the event as well, and finished fourth. RedBull TV covered the event and broadcasted it to over one billion people. The five episodes of their series can be viewed at: https://www.redbull.tv/live/AP-1R7YZ2UK51W11/the-ultimate-waterman.
