Therapeutic Cannabis Discussed at Maui County Medical Society

Doctor of Internal Medicine and Medical Oncologist, Gregory Park, MD, will speak about “Cannabis as Medicine” to members of the Maui County Medical Society at the next meeting at 6 pm, Wednesday, April 19 in the Leis Family Class Act Restaurant at the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College.

Non-member physicians, P.A.s, and APRNs are welcome to attend meetings. RSVPs are required by Monday, April 17.

Gregory Park, MD has practiced medicine on Maui since 1980. He is involved in the care and treatment of a broad variety of medical conditions varying from basic office visits for preventive care to the management of life-threatening illnesses and diseases requiring hospitalization and intensive care.

He also diagnoses and manages chronic adult medical conditions including cancer treatment and the administration of chemotherapy. It was in this context that he observed the palliative benefits of cannabis therapy for his patients.

His presentation to the Maui County Medical Society will introduce the Basics of Cannabis Therapy to medical professionals including epidemiology, physical and psychological effects, evidence base for the medical use of cannabis and legal consideration for physicians and APRNs.

Gregory Park, MD has been a staff physician at the Maui Memorial Cancer Center from 1985 to the present and served as Medical Director of the Cancer Center from 1984-2007. He earned his MD degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, New York. He opened the first personalized care practice in Hawaiʻi in 2012 affiliating with the MDVIP nationwide network of physicians of which he is currently an active member.

Dr. Park cofounded Maui Grown Therapies which last year earned the state’s first medical marijuana dispensary license after achieving a near perfect score of 510 of a possible 520 points in a merit based evaluation process conducted by the Hawaiʻi Department of Health. Maui’s first dispensary, located in the Maui Lani Village Center in Kahului, is ramping up to open for sales later this summer.
