Four Dead, Three Injured in Kā‘anapali Crash
A fatal motor vehicle collision occurred on Honoapi‘ilani Highway (30) just south of Keka‘a Drive in Kā‘anapali on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017, at approximately 6:53 p.m.
UPDATE Oct. 2, 2017, 9:54 a.m.: Maui Police have identified the operator of the 2007 Toyota Camry as 70-year-old Jack Carreras of Lahaina.

The collision occurred around 6:53 p.m. when a white 2003 Dodge pickup truck traveling south on Honoapi‘ilani Highway crossed left of a painted median and collided head-on into a white 2007 Toyota Camry four-door sedan traveling north on Honoapi‘ilani Highway within the inner lane.
The Toyota Camry then collided into a black 2014 Dodge pickup truck traveling north on Honoapi‘ilani Highway within the outer lane.
A tan 2015 Toyota Sienna passenger van, also traveling north on Honoapi‘ilani Highway within the outer lane then collided into the rear of the Toyota Camry.
The male operator of the 2003 Dodge pickup truck, who was utilizing his seatbelt, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The male operator of the Toyota Camry, who was utilizing his seatbelt, sustained fatal injuries and was also pronounced dead at the scene.
A rear seat passenger, who was not utilizing his seatbelt, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another rear seat passenger, who was not utilizing her seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The front seat passenger, a 36 year old female from San Mateo, California was utilizing her seatbelt and was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center in stable condition.
A rear seat passenger, a 38 year old male from Galt, California was utilizing his seatbelt and was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition.
The male operator of the 2014 Dodge pickup truck, a 37 year old male from Kahului, was utilizing his seatbelt and was not injured in the collision.
The male operator of the Toyota Sienna, a 55 year old male from Napili, was utilizing his seatbelt and was not injured in the collision.
All three rear seat passengers were utilizing their seat belts.
One of the passengers, a 44 year old female from Studio City, California sustained minor injuries and was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center for treatment.
The male operator of the white 2003 Dodge pickup truck has been identified as 52-year-old Raymundo Hernandez-Ramirez of Lahaina.
The rear seat passengers of the Toyota Camry who sustained fatal injuries were identified as 36-year-old Charles Whipple of San Mateo, California, and 36-year-old Danille McColloch of Galt, California.
The name of the Toyota Camry operator is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
Initial investigation reveals speed as a factor in the collision.
The involvement of drugs and alcohol are still pending as the investigation is ongoing.
This is Maui County’s 11th traffic fatality for 2017 as compared to 12 the same time last year.
