Learn About Water Catchment at Keokea Farmers Market

Chris Baz, the owner and president of Eco Products Maui will speak on water catchment, storage, pumping and filtration at 11 a.m. Sat., May 26, 2018, at the Keokea nursery site on Kula Highway, next to Grandma’s Coffee House.

The free mini-lecture is part of the biweekly Keokea Farmers Market from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the second and last Saturdays of each month, coinciding with Kula Hospital’s Hale Ku`ai thrift-shop hours.

A 47-year Upcountry resident, Baz said his Kula-based Eco Products Maui has installed more than 1,000 water-storage systems since 1987.

“We provide clean, potable, sustainable water catchment and storage all over Maui County and occasionally on other islands,” said Baz. “I think creating sustainable alternatives to the government (water) supply is critical to long-term survival.”

At the Keokea Farmers Market, Keokea and Waiohuli homestead farmers sell fresh produce. Market organizers also invite crafters and other community vendors to host a booth at the market for $10 per 10-by-10-foot space. Vendors must bring their own tent, table and chairs.

The Keokea Homestead Farm Lots Association and Pa`upena Community Development Corporation (CDC) co-sponsor the Keokea Farmers Market.

Keokea Homestead Farm Lots Association is an IRS 501(c)(3) nonprofit representing Maui’s only agricultural homestead, encompassing 65 two-acre lots dedicated to sustainable and subsistence farming.

Like the Keokea Homestead Farm Lots Association, Pa`upena CDC is a Maui-based beneficiary organization under the auspices of the 1921 Hawaiian Homes Commission Act federal trust. The mission of Pa`upena CDC is to provide resources and training to empower fellow Hawaiian homelands trust beneficiaries to build homes and self-sufficient agricultural and pastoral communities.
