Maui’s Wailani Artates Earns 3rd Career Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award
Makawalu: an ancient practice of thought, thinking in great quantities & seeing all thoughts in infinite ways. When two creatives and long-time friends come together on a collaboration, this is indeed all that transpires.
Maui’s own Wailani Artates, of Artistry8, brings home her third Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award for the graphics design of Nāpua Greig’s album cover, “Makawalu.” Artates has previously been nominated for several Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards, and this is her second win with Greig.
Prior awards received were in 2015 for album cover “Olanui” by Sean Robbins & the first in 2011 for album cover, “Mōhalu” by Nāpua Greig.
Artates says, “It is heavy when we create together because the meanings behind the music, the meanings behind the design are truly thoughtful, truly makawalu.”
2018 also marks the 8th year in business for Artistry8.
