The Women Helping Women West Maui Task Force will kick off October Domestic Violence Awareness Month with its seventh annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event at Lahaina Cannery on Saturday, Sept.
29, 2018.
The event runs from 9 a.m. to noon and has been expanded to include men, women and their families.
Participants are invited to Walk a Mile in high heel shoes – to help raise awareness about the causes and effects of domestic violence against women, and to find solutions for ending the abuse.
This family-friendly event is for all ages and features live music provided by Fred’s Garage, a photo booth, a keiki bouncy castle, food vendors and more. There will also be a drawing for a $200 cash prize, as well as awards for the best costume and for the walker with the most money pledged.

To take the Red Shoe Challenge and make a difference, just follow these three easy steps:
- Say Yes and Sign Up. You can walk solo or recruit a team to Walk a Mile in Her Shoes.
- Collect Pledges: Ask your family, ʻohana and coworkers to make a pledge for the number of “loops” you walk” in a pair of RED high heels.
- Walk the Walk: Bring your Cheerleaders! Encourage husbands, wives, ʻohana and friends to come out and walk with you or cheer you on as you Walk the Walk.
In person registration and check-in begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, or to register to walk, make a pledge, sponsor walkers or donate you can also visit the West Maui Task Force online. The fee to walk for adults is $25 which includes an event t-shirt and one lucky ticket for the $200 cash prize drawing. The fee for students is $10 to walk and includes an event t-shirt.
