Crews Respond to Overnight Residential Fire in Waiehu Heights

Update: 

A home fire in Waiehu Heights on Tuesday morning destroyed the one-story structure and caused an estimated $260,000.  The fire was reported at 12:42 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2018 at 857 West Kaena Place.

Fire officials say all individuals who were at the residence at the time of the fire, escaped without injury.  Two people who remained on scene were being assisted by Red Cross volunteers.

According to department reports, the home had no electricity, the yard was unkempt, and there were several derelict vehicles fronting the property.

Investigators were unable to gather sufficient and useful information to identify the cause of the fire.

Volunteers with the American Red Cross are also responding to the residential fire to assist affected residents with immediate needs.

Caseworkers will continue to follow up with anyone affected in the coming weeks to provide referrals, guidance or additional assistance as needed to help with the recovery process.

The Red Cross encourages all families to make a disaster plan to include an evacuation plan with two different routes of escape, a communications plan to help families reconnect after disaster and a disaster supplies kit that is readily available to aid in a quick evacuation.
