Representatives of government agencies and eligible private non-profit agencies with costs related to damage from Hurricane Lane are invited to an Applicant Briefing on Maui for the federal Public Assistance program. The presentation will include application procedures, administrative requirements, and funding and program eligibility criteria.

The declaration currently provides funds for eligible debris removal, emergency protective measures, and permanent work.  The federal share of the funding is 75% of the eligible costs.

The Maui briefing will take place on Monday, Oct. 15, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Maui County Emergency Operations Center in the basement level of the County Building.

Prospective applicants should contact Ms. Lorinda Wong-Lau, Hawaiʻi Emergency Management Agency, by phone at (808) 733-4300, ext. 801, or email [email protected] to receive a Request for Public Assistance application.

Private non-profit organizations interested in attending should contact Wong-Lau to receive a PNP packet which will explain the required documentation to be submitted with the RPA.

The Presidential Disaster Declaration signed by President Trump on Sept. 27, 2018, covers floods, wildfires and other disasters that occurred because of the Hurricane Lane between Aug. 22-29, 2018. It provides support from the Public Assistance Grant Program for emergency and repair work for disaster-damaged facilities on Hawai‘i Island, Maui and Kaua‘i.
