Haleakalā Night at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center

On Thursday, Oct. 18 at 7:00 p.m., the National Park Service and The Fund for People in Parks will host the premiere of a new short film Haleakalā: A Rare and Sacred Landscape by nature filmmaker, Steven M. Bumgardner. The event will be free to the public in the McCoy Studio Theater at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

The evening will begin with performances by Grammy Award winner George Kahumoku Jr., Hālau Hula Wehena O Ke Ao, and Fawn and CJ Helekahi. The 12-minute film, which will be used to educate visitors about the park, will be introduced by the Executive Director of the Fund for People in Parks, Bob Hansen.

“This special evening is a perfect opportunity to thank the community for supporting our park and perhaps to engage some new friends,” said Superintendent Natalie Gates. Bob Hansen added: “Haleakalā is indeed a very special place. It has been a pleasure to get to know more about the substance of this park and the people who care deeply about it through this film, and to have produced it with private funding from people who love national parks like Haleakalā.” Steven Bumgardner is a filmmaker and explorer whose work focuses on national parks.
