Ask the Mayor: Why Isn’t MPD Issuing Tickets for Illegal Parking in Handicapped Stalls?

Mr. Mayor,
Q: Why aren’t the police doing something—anything—about people who park in handicapped parking stalls without the proper placard? I see it day after day. It seems people are now aware of the fact that nothing will be done, that there are actually no consequences for parking in these stalls without a handicap placard.
It happens at Home Depot, Lowe’s, Walmart, and I see it happening at the Carl’s Jr. Mini Mart all
day long.
Can you ask your police force to please police these activities and give the people who actually need it their stalls back?
A: Our officers do cite those who park illegally, but they can’t be everywhere at once. Also if you see illegal handicap parking then make sure you report it by calling the Maui Police Department’s non-emergency number at (808) 244-6400.
