The 35th Annual Maui Jim Maui Invitational will host a series of kickoff activities on on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2018, in preparation for its event the next day Monday, Nov. 19.

The activities will include:

The HMSA Sun, Surf and Hoops 5K open to runners of all ages and fitness levels. The 5K race will begin at 7 a.m. and will be followed by a youth mile-run at approximately 7:10 a.m. Each race will start and finish at the Royal Course at Kāʻanapali Golf Course.

General packet pickup and late registration will take place on Saturday, Nov. 17, at Roy’s restaurant at Kāʻanapali Golf Course from 1 to 5 p.m. Race day pickup will begin at 6 a.m. at the Royal Course. The top overall male and female winners, along with age division winners, will receive special prizes, and all participants will receive a race day shirt and medal.

The Maui Jim Maui Golf Classic will start at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at the Kāʻanapali Golf Course. Registration includes 18 holes of golf, cart fees, commemorative gifts and a post-round luncheon at Roy’s. Participants may bring a team of four, or be paired with fellow fans. Each player on the winning team will receive an All-Day ticket package for Monday’s games of the Maui Jim Maui Invitational.

The annual series of Hoops Clinics presented by HMSA will feature its final clinic from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Lahaina Civic Center Outdoor DreamCourt. The clinic is free and open to participants from 3rd to 8th grade. Check-in begins at 1:30 p.m.

Finally, there will be a traditional Hawaiian buffet featuring the eight head coaches of the Maui Jim Maui Invitational beginning at 6 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa’s Nāpili Gardens. Traditional hula dancers and fire knife performers will set the stage as the teams and the coaches will be introduced to the audience before they take the Lahaina Civic Center hardwood.

The 2018 Maui Jim Maui Invitational field comprises one of the most accomplished fields in NCAA Tournament history. The field will feature four national coach of the year winners, led by Duke’s 12-time honoree Mike Krzyzewski. He is one of six Maui-bound head coaches who appear among the NCAA’s top 20 active leaders in wins, joining Gonzaga’s Mark Few, Arizona’s Sean Miller, Illinois’ Brad Underwood, Auburn’s Bruce Pearl and Iowa State’s Steve Prohm.
