Water Is Restored to Kīpahulu District of Haleakalā

Drinking water has been restored to the Kīpahulu District of Haleakalā National Park after emergency repairs to the main waterline in the district.

On Oct. 12, emergency repairs were initiated on the main waterline resulting in water fountain and rest room closures in Kīpahulu. Public restrooms are now available for use.

The Pools of ʻOheʻo remain closed until the flash flood alert system is repaired.

Due to rockslides, underwater hazards, and frequent flashfloods, the park does not recommend swimming or wading in the Pools of ʻOheʻo. The famous pools closed last year on Jan. 3, 2017 due to a rockslide. One park visitor sustained minor injuries. The park closed the pools to protect visitor safety until mitigation measures could be completed.
