NO Tsunami After Large Alaska Quake

There is no tsunami threat to Hawaiʻi after a 6.7 (preliminary magnitude 7.0) earthquake reported in the Southern Alaska region at 7:29 a.m. HST on Friday, Nov. 30, 2018.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says that based on all available data, a destructive Pacific-Wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat to Hawaiʻi.

The USGS reports that the quake occurred at a depth of 38.5 km and was located:

2.2 mi NW of Point MacKenzie, Alaska;
8.3 mi S of Anchorage, Alaska;
12.2 mi E of Eagle River, Alaska;
16.5 mi NE of Knik-Fairview, Alaska; and
500.6 mi E of Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada.
