Big Bad Voodoo Daddy Returns to the MACC, Jan. 12

The Maui Arts & Cultural Center presents Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, a jazz and swing music band, to the Castle Theater on Saturday, Jan. 12, at 7:30 p.m.

The band’s music is a fusion of the classic American sounds of jazz, swing, and Dixieland, with the energy and spirit of contemporary culture.

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s all-original core lineup includes: Scotty Morris with lead vocals and guitar; Kurt Sodergren at the drums; Dirk Shumaker playing double bass and vocals; Andy Rowley with the baritone saxophone and vocals; Glen “The Kid” Marhevka playing the trumpet; Karl Hunter playing both saxophones and clarinet; and Joshua Levy at the piano and arranger.

Joining them on the road are Anthony Bonsera Jr. playing trumpet and Alex Henderson playing trombone.

In their 25 years of performances, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy has celebrated jazz and swing music. Formed in the early 90s in Ventura, California, BBVD has toured virtually nonstop since, performing an average 150 shows a year, and has produced a sizable catalog of recorded music.

The band’s original horn-infused music and legendary high-energy show introduces the genre to a new and younger generation, while remaining cognizant and respectful of swing music’s rich legacy.

Tickets are $15, $45, $55, and $85 plus applicable fees; MACC members receive a 10% discount.

Tickets will be available to MACC members first, starting Saturday, Dec. 8; and available to the general public starting Saturday, Dec. 15.
