The Maui Humane Society is seeking “Holiday Heroes” for shelter pets this Christmas.

Starting Thursday, Dec. 20, 2018, the public can take home a pet from the Maui Humane Society to foster during the holidays. MHS will provide all the supplies that foster families need to care for the pet. All the foster families need to supply is the home and the love.

How does it work? Visit the Maui Humane Society now through Dec. 24, 2018. Select any cat or dog with the special “foster” sign on their kennel and tell any staff member that you would like to be that animal’s “Holiday Hero.”

MHS will provide all of the supplies and information needed and send you on your way with your holiday guest. You can return your friend back to the care of the shelter on Dec. 26, or you can choose to continue fostering until they are adopted. Maui Humane Society’s announcement says, “It’s up to you.”

“There is nothing quite as selfless as giving shelter and love to a creature in need, and during the holidays, this type of kindness is even more special,” said Jerleen Bryant, CEO, Maui Humane Society.

“Even a short break from shelter life will benefit these cats and dogs enormously. Many times, foster families fall in love and end up adopting their foster pets, but even if they don’t, the information we receive on how the pet did in a home during their break is invaluable in helping us find the perfect forever home for that animal.”

If you are interested in becoming a “Holiday Hero,” please stop by the Maui Humane Society any day between 11-6pm or visit the website at www.mauihumanesociety.org. You may also call (808) 877-3680 ext. 3.
