Haleakalā Regulations Enforced During Government Shutdown
Haleakalā National Park rangers have issued a reminder to the public that they are enforcing all regulations during the lapse in appropriated funds.
During the partial government shutdown, citations may be issued by law enforcement rangers. All camping, speed and traffic regulations are being enforced as well.
Park rangers advise the public that response to emergency medical situations are extremely limited and backcountry cabin permits are not being issued at this time. According to the NPS, emergency response maybe delayed or absent. Also, ranger remind the public that no drones are allowed in the park.
Sunrise reservations are required for entrance from 3 a.m. to 7 a.m. Park staff is checking for reservations at the Entrance Station. To make reservations go to www.recreation.gov.
There is no entrance fee for entering the park at this time. Electronic message boards, as well as signs posted on park buildings will remind visitors of these conditions. All park interpretive, educational programs and volunteer activities are cancelled until further notice.

Closures in the Summit District
- Headquarters Visitor Center, at 7000 feet of elevation
- Haleakalā Visitor Center, at 9741 feet of elevation
- Backcountry cabins. No permits are issued for backcountry cabins. After federal operations resume, refunds may be requested via www.recreation.gov.
Closures in the Kīpahulu District
- Kīpahulu Visitor Center
- The Pools of `Ohe`o
Open:
- Summit District roads and trails: (limited emergency response).
- Kīpahulu District roads and trails open (limited emergency response).
- Restrooms
- Trash removal
- Hosmer Grove Campground
- Kīpahulu Campground
- Holua and Palikū tent campgrounds
