Registration for Junior Lifeguard Program Opens Next Friday

The County of Maui Department of Fire and the Public Safety announced that the registration process for their Junior Lifeguard Program will begin next Friday, Feb. 15.

The department said that the program is capped at 15 participants each program session for every district. The program is open to keiki ages 12 to 17. The week-long sessions will be held on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Northern, Southern, and Western districts of the island.

The program is broken down into five sessions from June 10 to July 12. Below is a schedule of the program sessions:

  • Session One- June 10 to 14
  • Session Two- June 17 to 21
  • Session Three- June 24 to 28
  • Session Four- July 1 to 5
  • Session Five- July 8 to 12

The registration process ends on April 26. All new participants will be required to complete a swim assessment in which they are expected to swim 300 yards non-stop within 11 minutes.
