Tea & Garden Tour to Benefit Cancer Survivors

Maui Cancer Wellness Retreats, an organization that offers retreats for cancer survivors, will host its first annual Royal High Tea benefit from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2019, at the Lona Ridge Estate. All event proceeds will help fund 30 scholarships for cancer survivors to attend the MCWRʻs three-day retreat.

The event will begin with a welcome Mimosa and a greeting from the estateʻs owner Leona Wilson. Acclaimed celebrity Chef Bev Gannon will be catering the event, which will also include a tour of the gardens and a mixer among attendees. Dr. Bridget Bongaard, co-founder of MCWR, will present an opening speech to kickoff the event. Past MCWR participant and cancer survivor Dr. Alice Svoboda will then speak to guests about her experiences as an attendee of last year’s retreat.

Chef Gannon will then provide a tea service. Musical entertainment, prize drawings, a silent and a live auction will also be offered at the event. The MCWR is encouraging attendees to arrive dressed in high tea party attire.

“MCWR gives individuals tools to restore control in their life and offers time to process the changes they have undergone,” Dr. Bongaard said. “The retreat focuses on the means to get the body and spirit strengthened for a better future outcome.”

Some of the topics that will be discussed at the event include:

• Nutrition as it relates to cancer wellness
• Illness prevention
• Creation of resilience and hardiness for bettering the quality of life
• Consciousness of personal patterns and how to create positive change
• Epigenetics: how cancer gene expression can be changed or regulated
• Psycho-immunobiology: how emotions/thoughts influence the immune system.
