A new study by InsureMyTrip reveals Kahului Airport (OGG) on Maui is one of the best airports in the country when it comes to on-time performance.

Kahului Airport ranked the third best, with one of the lowest percentages of cancelled flights (roughly 0.5%) for all of 2018.

Salt Lake City took the top spot. New York’s LaGuardia had the worst track record with winter storms playing a factor, forcing many flights to call it quits last winter.

Honolulu’s Daniel K Inouye International Airport was ranked 60th on the list of 74 locations.

Researchers at InsureMyTrip evaluated the latest data — released this week — from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. The data included newly updated information on cancellations for all US airports last year. InsureMyTrip calculated all the cancellation percentages and published an updated ranking.

Looking ahead, InsureMyTrip predicts the grounding of Boeing 737 Max jets will inflate cancellation rates for many airports nationwide when 2019 percentages are calculated.

Researchers looked at the total number of scheduled flights and the number of flights cancelled in order to calculate flight cancellation percentages. All airports on the list also had to meet a minimum threshold of 18,500 scheduled flights for the year.
