Maui County Mayor Michael Victorino answers some of the most-asked questions submitted to his staff.

Q: Are there any plans to resurface the old airport road? This road is widely used by people going to Costco and the air cargo area, and there are potholes that can cause damage to your car.

A: Mahalo for the question and although this question concerns roadways under the state’s jurisdiction, I know this affects many of our residents and visitors.

My staff contacted officials at the state Department of Transportation Airports Division, who will be looking into the issue. We were told, though, that crews paved Airport Road from the fire station to the heliport two years ago and have plans to address the remaining distance from the heliport to the cargo access road.

We do not have a definitive timeline for the second phase of paving work, but we will be working with the state and provide whatever assistance we can to help address these issues.
