Maui Fire Dept Promotes Kino to Battalion Chief
The Maui Fire Department announced the promotion of Kaulana Kino to Battalion Chief. Kino is a 16-year veteran of the department. He joined the MFD in 2002 with the 21st Recruit Class.
During his career, he has worked in Lahaina, Hoʻolehua, Kahului, Hāna and Wailuku, as well as being assigned to the Department’s Hazardous Materials Team and the Training Bureau.
Kino currently serves as the Incident Command System program director, and is involved with the Hazardous Materials Operation program. Previously he has been a part of the Maui Incident Management Team, the Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator Program, the Radio Communications Team, Master Strategic Plan Committee, Research and Development program, the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program, and program director of the Department’s Honor Guard.
The most recent posts Kino has served in have been: Captain at Engine 12 (Hoʻolehua), Captain at Engine 3 (Lahaina) and Captain at Engine 1 (Wailuku).
Kino is a 1999 graduate of H.P. Baldwin high school, and holds a degree from the University of Hawaiʻi.
He and his wife Ashley live in Waiehu, with their children Hamilton, Boston and Aceline.
Chief Kino is assigned as the Battalion Chief of the second battalion, A watch. His promotion took effect on June 1, 2019.
