Maui South Shore Surf Expected to Rise to 10-14 Feet

Surf along the south facing shores of Maui, Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi will rise to 10 to 14 feet late this afternoon and tonight, according to the latest forecast issued by the National Weather Service.

The agency issued a high surf advisory for south facing shores of all Maui County islands until 6 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2019.

Forecast surf heights are estimates of the height of the face or front of waves.  Surf is expected to lower to 7 to 10 feet on Wednesday, but still be within advisory range.

A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area, producing rip currents and localized beach erosion.  The conditions may also produce strong breaking waves, shore break and strong long-shore and rip currents, making swimming difficult and dangerous.

As a precaution, beach-goers, swimmers and surfers should heed advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution.
