New “Big Wave” Platform to Bring Year-Round Surf Content
The World Surf League is launching a new digital platform to spotlight big wave surfing events all year round.
The platform, “Big Wave,” will “go deeper into the action whenever and wherever the biggest waves are breaking,” WSL representatives said in a press release.
“Big Wave” will focus on the Strike Mission series, the Jaws Big Wave World Championships at Pe’ahi, the Nazaré Tow Challenge, and the Big Wave Awards, in addition to year-round content.
According to the WSL, the Strike Missions series will feature behind-the-scenes storytelling and unparalleled highlights to showcase big wave surfing beyond competitions.
The new platform also aims to provide Big Wave Award submissions a “dedicated home to celebrate all the jaw-dropping moments.”
In the past, Big Wave Award recipients have garnered Guinness World Records.
The WSL also announced the launch of its new Big Wave Development Fund, which will offer workshops to help keiki surfers “build the necessary experience and skills to surf the mammoth waves in places like Nazaré and Pe’ahi.”
