Falsetto Contest Aims to “Raise Awareness of Hawaiʻiʻs Traditions Through Song”
The 18th annual Uncle Richard Hoʻopiʻi Leo Kiʻekiʻe competition will be held on Sept. 14 at the Ritz Carlton Kapalua. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the contest will begin at 6:30 p.m.
This yearʻs theme is “E Ho‘i Nā Wai, E Ho‘i ke Aloha i ke Ao,” which translates to, may the waters return, may the love for our world return.
Event organizers say the event aims to raise awareness of Hawaiʻiʻs traditions through song.
The competition hopes to provide amateur falsetto singers a platform to perpetuate “a very unique aspect of Hawaiʻiʻs music industry,” according to an event press release.
This year’s winner, the release adds, will receive a cash prize and a “slew of makana.”
