In  a press release, Alexander & Baldwin  announced that its grant program is “touching the lives of thousands of local residents.”

Last year, A&Bʻs Kōkua Giving program provided $1.2 million to 313 organizations across the islands.

Over a quarter of those groups are based on Maui.

According to the release, A&B gifted $100,000 to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Maui for building repairs.

“Many of the kids who come through these doors are in tough situations, but Big Brothers Big Sisters gives them a place they can call ‘home,'” retired A&B vice president Mercer “Chubby” Vincent said in the release.

“Mahalo to A&B for their generous kōkua to an organization that means so much to me and the people of Maui.”

The company also provided funds for various Maui art projects, including a documentary capturing the experiences of kūpuna who grew up in Makawao during the plantation era.
