Brad Lee Kapi’ina Apo, 38, of Makawao, passed away on Sept. 2, 2019 in Wailuku. He was born on June 11, 1981 in Wailuku.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019 at Ballard Family Mortuary, memorial service at 11 a.m.
Brad worked at Hawaiian Dredging as a Heavy Equipment Operator.
He is survived by his wife, Lei Apo; daughters, Lehiwa and Lahela Apo; parents, Bryce and Leona Apo; brother, Corey (Misty) Apo; sisters, Kelsey (Kekupa’a) Naeole, Lacey Apo (Ryan Cabral); grandmother, Madeline “Nina” Tavares; God-Children, Kaimi Fuentes, Austin Elioka Gomes, Azarin Gomes, Jax Victorino; mother-in-law, Janice Baisa; sisters-in-law, Janalene “Loke” (Donny) Poouahi, Janell “Meli” (Wesley) Purdy, Ellissa “Manu” (Derrick) Baisa-Gomes; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and his rodeo ʻohana.
January 15, 1922 – September 1, 2019
Mrs. Caridad Agdinaoay Basug Manuel was called by her creator on Sept. 1, 2019. She died peacefully at her home. She was born on Jan. 15, 1922 in Banna, Ilocos Norte, Philippines by Calixto Basug and Maria Agdinaoay Basug.
She was a lifelong educator, having obtained a degree in Elementary education and Nation Teachers College in Manila in March 1948. She began teaching at Marulas Elementary School in Valenzule City in June 1948. On April 4, 1959 she obtained her Bachelors of Science in Education at Manuel L. Elementary in Manila. On Dec. 6, 1964 the Board Exam for Teachers was released and she was one of those who passed the test. Transferred to the Division of City School in Manila on June 1964 at Juan Sumulong Elementary School. She came to Maui, Nov. 30, 1974 to join her husband Victor Manuel. They went on to live in Wailuku, Maui on June 8, 1975 where she worked in the Hale Makua Dietary Department. Retired at the age of 68 but continued working until the age of 80 as a cook.
A memorial service having Mrs. Manuel will be held at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Wailuku on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019. Public viewing to begin at 8 a.m. with Mass to begin at 9 a.m. Burial to follow at 10:30 a.m. at Maui Memorial Park. A lunch to follow at Good Shepherds Church at 11:30 a.m.
She will be laid to rest with her husband at Maui Memorial Park in the Garden of Meditation. Survived by her adopted daughter Joyce M. Santos; grandson, Lawrence M. Santos, Sergi Lampitoc, Karl Rupisan; nephew, Roy (Menchie) Lampitoc; niece, Sonia Rupisan; granddaughter, Christine Fernandez and the grandchildren in Hawaiʻi and the Philippines.
December 10, 1943 – August 31, 2019
Paul K. Sinenci Sr., 75 of Pukalani, passed away on Aug. 31, 2019 at his residence under the care of Hospice Maui. He was born on Dec. 11, 1943 in Hana.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2019 at Ballard Family Mortuary, service will begin at noon, burial 2 p.m. at Valley Isle Memorial Park.
After the burial, food and drinks will be provided by family and friends. Please join them at Haʻikū Community Center.
Paul retired from Maui Electric Company where he worked as an equipment operator.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline Sinenci; children, Paul K. Sinenci Jr., Paula I. Sinenci, Preston L. Sinenci Sr., and Prescott K. Sinenci; brothers, Stephen, Francis, Peter, Victor, and Sebastian Sinenci; sister, Angela Tavares; 10 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
Family would like to acknowledge Hospice Maui for their compassionate care of Paul.
March 16, 1950 – August 30, 2019
Mary E. Perreira, 69, of Haʻikū, Maui, passed away on Aug. 30, 2019, under the care of Islands Hospice, with her loving family at her side. She was born on March 16, 1950, in England.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019, at Ballard Family Mortuary; service will begin at 11 a.m.; burial will follow, 12:30 p.m., at Valley Isle Memorial Park Haʻikū.
Mary was a retired seamstress. She is survived by her loving husband, Edward Perreira; son, Scott Louis (Susan); siblings, Cathy, Edward, Terry, Roseanne, Diane, Shirley, and her dog Lady-Di.
March 2, 1935 – August 29, 2019
Miriam K. Kahalekai, 84 of Wailuku, Hawaiʻi, peacefully passed away on Thursday, Aug. 29th, 2019 in the care of Maui Memorial Medical Center.
She was born in Wailuku, Maui to the late Edward Kam & Beatrice Tai on March 2, 1935.
Services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2019 at St. Anthony Church from 9 a.m. with Mass to begin at 11 a.m. Burial is to follow at Maui Memorial Park Cemetery at 12:30 p.m.
Miriam will continue to live in the hearts of her children, Anne Kahalekai-Tam (John), Kaui Kahalekai, Bill Kahalekai (Tanya); siblings, Hazel Koike, Carolyn Akina, Shirleyan Yamasaki (Donald); grandchildren, Autumn Tam, Colby Tam, Jordan Kahalekai-Bermoy, Jameson Kahalekai-Bermoy, Chentelle Rowland, Kory Kahalekai, Keoki Leite, Kristian Rosete, Ka’imi Kahalekai; great-grandchildren, Lamakū Kahalekai-Gogue, Kanoa Kahalekai-Gogue, Hilina’I Kahalekai-Gogue, Kahikina Rowland, Ema’īkalani Rowland; and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Elmo Kahalekai, and daughter Malia Kahalekai.
June 24, 1944 – August 22, 2019
Michael David Sherline, 75, of Na’alehu, passed away on Aug. 22, 2019 at home. Born in South Carolina on June 25, 1944, he was retired from Pima County Sheriff’s Department, a member of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, Big Band Express, the United States Navy Band, Hawaiʻi County Band of West Kamuela, Cook Chamber Orchestra, Ka’u Concert Band, and received a National Defense Service medal.
Michael is survived by the love of his life, Samantha Sherline of Na’alehu; Stepson, James Kamalu McCabe Long; brother, Donald Sherline of Maryville, TN; sister, Marjorie Meredith of Maryville, TN.
September 15, 1956 – August 20, 2019
Benjamin William Pomaikaiokalani Ko, 62 of Wailuku, Maui passed away on Aug. 20, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Sept. 15, 1956 in Lahaina, Maui.
Benjamin is survived by his wife, Maria Teresa Ko; Maria’s children, Denmarc Rubio, Danica Marie Rubio (Andrew Laborte), Mark Daniel Rubio; his children, Jo-An (Glenn) Costa, Sr., Eryck (Terry) Bautista , Stella (Robbie) Silva, Joann, Jos-lynne (Rich) Young, Natalie Almeida, Geraldine (Alex) Gonsalves, Cheryl (Peter) Hotta, Patrick Bautista; 23 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; siblings, Robbie (Linda) Ko, Sissa Ko, Jamie Ko; nieces, nephews, many friends from CDL and OGG ohana and many extended family. He is predeceased by his wife of 30 years, Violet Ko; mother, Alice Ko; father, Benjamin Ko Sr.; brother, Clyde Ko.
Burial will be held on Friday, Sept. 13, 2019 at 1 p.m. at the Maui Veterans Cemetery.
