OHA Accepting Applications for Financial Aid Grant

Nonprofit organizations can now apply for a grant from the Office of Hawaiian Affairs to provide financial assistance to Native Hawaiians with low income.

According to an OHA press release, the purpose of the Emergency Financial Assistance grant is to support Native Hawaiians whose incomes are at or below 300 percent of Hawaiʻiʻs Federal Poverty Guidelines.

Recipients may use the funds to offset financial instability from unexpected crises, such as a loss of income, layoffs, debilitating illness or injuries, or other unanticipated circumstances.

In addition, the grant will provide financial literacy counseling, case management services, and referrals to other service providers to help Native Hawaiians achieve long-term financial stability.

The two-year grant period begins on Jan. 1, 2020 and ends on Dec. 21, 2021.
