Energy Program Aims to Help Nonprofits Cut Costs

Applications for Hawaiʻi Energyʻs EmPOWER Hawaiʻi Project will be available on Oct. 1.

The program aims to help local nonprofits save energy and reduce operating costs by providing recommendations, increased incentives, and technical assistance.

“Most nonprofits are working with limited budgets and high operating costs. We are happy to help redirect funding from their electric bills toward their important missions,” Hawaiʻi Energy executive director Brian Kealoha said in a press release.

“The five nonprofits that participated in the first year of the EmPOWER Hawai‘i Project will reduce their energy consumption by over 120,000 kilowatt-hours and save more than $30,000 off their electricity bills – and that’s just for their lighting.”

Hawai‘i Energy will select up to seven qualified organizations to participate in the 2019-2020 EmPOWER Hawai‘i Project cohort.
