Hawai‘i Farmers Union United Convention, Nov. 8-10

The Hawaiʻi Farmers Union United hosts its 9th annual convention, Nov. 8 to 10 at the Puʻunēnē “Community Farmlands.”

“In the last year we have had historic heat waves, unprecedented wildfires affecting farmlands, unpredictable weather conditions and continued budget challenges,” event organizers said in a press release.  “This is an opportunity to grow, learn and provide for our future and Hawaiʻi has been leading the charge in pioneering regenerative soil health methods of farming.”

The theme of this year’s event is “Farm as Eco System,” and speaks to the living relationship that exists with the place where food is grown.

“The annual convention represents what is possible and how diverse our agricultural systems are and can be in providing the best food possible,” said event organizers.

The soon-to-be “Community Farmland Project” provides participants with a first opportunity to interact with producers who are looking to provide agricultural value to the island through agricultural livelihoods.

Hawai’i Farmers Union United formed in 2010, and through collective efforts in 2017, became a chartered state division of the National Farmers Union.  NFU is the 117-year-old parent organization representing family farmers nationwide.

HFUU currently has approximately 1600 members state-wide and 12 chapters.
