Maui High School junior Hunter Shields took the boy’s cross country state title at Seabury Hall on Saturday.

Shields, who just claimed the Maui Interscholastic League crown, completed the race in about 16 minutes, edging out defending state champion Adam Harder of Hanalani Schools.

“It’s been my goal to win since I got second place last year and I’m happy I could do it on Maui,” Shields told Maui Now.

Maui High’s Damon Wakefield placed third, followed by fellow saber Adam Hakola in fourth.
