Maui Electric restores power to majority of customers

Maui Electric has restored power to a majority of the remaining 1,000 customers in parts of Kula, Olinda, Haʻikū, Kahului, and Wailuku after gusty winds damaged electrical equipment on the island.

Crews continue to work on restoring power to about 100 customers in a pocket of Upcountry and Kahului.

Approximately 1,400 customers in various parts of Maui experienced outages overnight.

Approximately 1,400 customers in various parts of Maui, including areas in Central Maui, Upcountry, Haʻikū and Spreckelsville, experienced outages overnight as gusty winds damaged electrical equipment on the island.

Currently, crews are working to restore about 1,000 customers in parts of Kula, Olinda, and pocket areas Haʻikū, Kahului, and Wailuku.

Maui Electric repairing damaged equipment at Kamehameha Avenue and Hāna Highway

As of 8 a.m., Maui Electric crews will be repairing a downed pole at Kamehameha Avenue and Hāna Highway after winds damaged electrical equipment on the island.

Motorists are advised to drive with caution and asked to avoid the area if possible as crews safely work to make the repairs.

Crews are continuing restoration efforts in parts of Kula, Olinda, Haʻikū, and pocket areas in Kahului and Wailuku.

Maui Electric continues power restorations 

Maui Electric is working to restore power to various parts of Maui after winds brought down power lines and damaged electrical equipment.

As damage assessments continue, crews have brought Makawao, Spreckelsville and parts of Kahului back online. Restoration efforts continue in areas that remain out, including parts of Kula, Olinda, Haʻikū, and pocket areas in Kahului and Wailuku.

Motorists are advised to drive with caution as traffic signals may be impacted in some areas.

The public is asked to report any outages, and/or downed power lines and poles to Maui Electric at (808) 871-7777.

The public is also advised to stay at least 30 feet away (about two car lengths) from downed power lines, as they may have electricity running through them and may be dangerous. If you see someone injured after touching a downed power line, call 9-1-1 for help; don’t try to rescue the individual.

Maui Electric Company is responding to power outages in various parts of Maui, including areas in Kahului, Upcountry, Haiku and Spreckelsville.

Company officials say the power outages are due to wind impacts.
