Maui Youth Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Maui Youth Philharmonic Orchestra hosts their Winter Concert on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2019, at 3 p.m. at the King Kelaulike Performing Arts Center.

The event features an afternoon of free, heartwarming music performed by Maui’s youth playing orchestral instruments.

The Cello Ensemble under the direction of Keani Kahuhu, will join the Rona Landrigan’s Violin Ensemble for familiar Christmas selections and more. The Philharmonic Orchestra will close the afternoon concert with Carol of the Bells (A Ukrainian Christmas), All Is Calm, (featuring Peggy Schecter’s flutists Lauren Kenar and Jensine Pedersen and pianist Alexis Asato), The 2nd movement of the “Surprise” Symphony by F.J. Haydn, Scott Joplin’s Entertainer featuring Anica Ancheta on piano, and finally, a medley of well known Christmas tunes in The Wonderful World of Christmas.

The Philharmonic Orchestra is led by Iolani Yamashiro-Rahimi.

Schools represented in MYPO include Hawaiʻi Technology Academy, Kamehameha Schools Maui, Baldwin High School, ʻĪao Middle School, Maui High School, Kīhei Charter School, Lahainaluna School, Seabury Hall, Maui Waena Middle School, Maui Christian Academy, homeschool, Waiheʻe School, Haleakalā Waldorf and others.
