A festive holiday feast entertained hundreds of Mauiʻs local kūpuna at the Kīhei Community Center last Wednesday evening.

The annual “Nā Kūpuna Dinner,” hosted by the Maui Hotel & Lodging Association, attracted about 400 kūpuna, many of whom have no family close by to celebrate the holidays or are homebound.

With the help of dozens of hotel volunteers, attendees enjoyed a hotel banquet style dinner and a slew of gifts while sitting with friends in the elaborately decorated community center.

Event organizers say the spirited gathering has become a staple holiday tradition for many of Mauiʻs elderly.

“This is probably the best event for seniors on Maui all year, it’s good to see so many smiling faces on every table,” MHLA executive director Rod Antone said in a press release.

“The hotel community is made up of locals who love to give back to our kūpuna, and it makes for a great Christmas for everyone.”
