New Self-Service Kiosk for Vehicle Registrations at Maui County Building
A new self-service DMV kiosk was installed and blessed today at the county’s Kalana O Maui Building, bringing to five, the total number available in Maui County. The kiosk will be available during normal business hours, from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
“This will be very convenient for residents doing business in the County Building and County of Maui employees who work here or nearby,” said Mayor Michael Victorino. “It takes just a few minutes to register your vehicle at a kiosk. It’s easy and saves time waiting in line at the Division of Motor Vehicles and Licensing offices elsewhere. At the County Building, customers can also pay water, sewer and solid waste bills.”
Other kiosks are already located at the Maui County Service Center at the Maui Mall in Kahului and at the Kīhei, Lahaina and Wailuku Safeway stores. There are also plans to install a kiosk at the Safeway store in Kahului.
“The Safeway kiosks are open seven days a week and have been very well received by our customers who’ve registered their vehicles while shopping,” said Department of Finance Director Scott Teruya. “From January through November, 16,281 vehicle registrations have been renewed, and Maui County has collected $5,113,000 in registration fees. This has impacted wait times at our DMVL offices, allowing our staff to focus on lengthier and more complex service for our customers.”
The kiosk houses a self-service terminal that allows people to use a touchscreen to process and print vehicle registration cards and emblems. The machine, referred to as an SST, accepts payments from debit or credit cards. There is a 2.5 percent credit card fee charged to customers during kiosk transactions.
Customers are able to perform the following transactions, provided their vehicle’s safety inspection is current:
- Renew their car, truck, motorcycle and/or trailer registrations.
- Renew an expired registration up to 10 months and two weeks after expiration.
The kiosk vendor is Intellectual Technology Inc.
