Moloka‘i Health Center Awarded $4 Million Over Three Years

Molokaʻi ʻOhana Health Care, Inc., dba Molokaʻi Community Health Center was awarded a $4 million federal grant from the Health Resources Services Administration.

The funds will support MCHC’s delivery of primary care services. MCHC received the FY2020 Health Center Service Area Competition award through the US Department of Health and Human Services.

The award’s multi-year project period was granted to MCHC following a 2019 annual on-site review conducted by HRSA. The center demonstrated full compliance with its program requirements, including clinical staffing, quality assurance, required and additional health services, key management staff, board authority and composition, and financial management.

Molokaʻi Community Health Center is a community-based health organization integrating primary medical and dental care with behavioral health, health education and prevention, and cultural and complementary care, including massage and acupuncture. MCHC has been recognized for its quality of care as a recipient of the HRSA’s Quality Award from the Department of Health and Human Services for four successive years.

“These grant dollars enable MCHC to continue to provide our comprehensive services to residents of Molokaʻi, delivering much-needed care to our patients regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay,” said Helen Kekalia Wescoatt, CEO of Molokaʻi Community Health Center. “We look forward to working with our partners and patients to improve the health of the Molokai community.”

Over the past three years, MCHC’s operational budget has grown by 15 percent. The health center’s program funding is part of an award totaling $4.4 million annually, with 69 percent of MCHC’s budget financed with non-federal resources.
