Visitor Injured in 15 Foot Fall at Ka‘uiki in Hāna, Maui

Rescue crews assisted a male visitor who was injured in a fall while hiking around Ka‘uiki Head at Hāna Bay in East Maui on Thursday.

The incident was reported at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2020.

Fire officials say the man, described as a 22-year-old from Minnesota, was attempting to hike from Hāna Bay around Kaʻuiki Head to Kaihalulu when the incident occurred.

Responding units from the Maui Fire Department’s Engine 7 arrived on scene to find the man in a heavily wooded area at the 200 foot elevation.

Fire personnel from Engine 7 and Rescue 10 were able to assist the man out on foot. He was treated by medics on scene.

Fire officials say the man suffered scrapes and scratches in the fall.
