Maui DMV Limiting Customers Inside, Waiving Online Convenience Renewal Fee

The County of Maui announces that the Division of Motor Vehicles and Licensing will begin restricting the amount of customers that enter its office to no more than 10 people, effective Tuesday, March 17, 2020.

Kīhei and Lahaina DMV satellite offices will be limited to five waiting customers due to the size of its offices. All other customers will be required to wait outside of the office. These offices utilize a cell phone pager system that text waiting customers when they are fifth in line to enter the office.

Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi DMV satellite office will be limited to two waiting customers due to the size of its offices. All other customers will be requested to wait outside.

The announcement follows today’s White House recommendation that advises the public to avoid gatherings of no more than 10 people.

All driving tests, commercial driving and skills tests, and motorcycle skills tests will be suspended, effective Wednesday, March 18.

All credit card convenience fees for registration renewals at all self-service kiosks, will be waived, effective Wednesday, March 18. Self-service kiosks are located in the Kalana O Maui Building and Safeway stores. The fees will be waived until June 30, 2020.

“Mayor Victorino asked us to look into how we can make County services safer and easier for our residents and County employees,” Finance Director Scott Teruya said. “We believe this accommodation will help protect our employees, while encouraging residents to use online services with no additional fees.”

The DMV also is working toward an appointment-only system for its Central Maui, Kihei and Lahaina offices to eliminate walk-in traffic. The launch of this system will be announced when it is available.
