Mayor Victorino COVID-19 Update: Contributes $30K Per Week to Maui Food Distribution Effort

Farm Product Purchase Program: Maui Mayor Michael Victorino announced the launch of the Farm Product Purchase Program which will allow for the distribution of produce to families in need on Maui. The County of Maui is contributing $30,000 a week for the next four to five weeks to farmers for the purchase of produce locally. That food will be offered at five distribution centers to be set up, initially on the island of Maui.

Molokaʻi Resident Being Treated on Oahu for COVID-19: “The County of Maui has been notified that a test result for a Molokaʻi resident has returned positive. The adult male had possible travel history and is currently hospitalized on Oʻahu. The Hawaii Department of Health is currently investigating the matter and any close contacts made by the individual,” said Mayor Michael Victorino.

H.E.L.P update: As of 1 p.m. today, Maui Economic Opportunity had received 509 applications from residents seeking financial support after being laid off from work, or having work hours reduced due to the COVID-19 response in Maui County.  Maximum assistance over a 30 day period ranges from $440 for a family of one to two individuals, to $880 for a family of seven or more.

Vandalism at Maui restrooms: Mayor Victorino expressed frustration over recent vandalism at public restrooms that were opened to help meet the needs of individuals who are in need.  The Maui vandalism was reported at the Mala Wharf restrooms in West Maui.
