Mayor Victorino announces food distributions for Wailuku, Kahului and South Maui on Thursday

Mayor Michael Victorino announced two food distributions taking place Thursday, April 9, to provide bags of produce to individuals impacted by COVID-19 in Wailuku, Kahului and South Maui.

Distributions will start at 10 a.m. at the following locations:

• War Memorial Gymnasium parking lot (700 Halia Nakoa Street) for Wailuku and Kahului residents.
• South Maui Community Park Gymnasium parking lot (1501 Liloa Drive) for South Maui residents.

The War Memorial Gym parking lot can be accessed through a right turn from Kanaloa Ave. onto Halia Nakoa St. A left turn onto Halia Nakoa is NOT permitted.

Plans are underway for a similar food distribution in Lahaina, with more information to be announced soon.

The first food distribution took place in Pukalani on March 30.

“I want to send a warm mahalo to all of the businesses that are assisting us in this endeavor,” Mayor Michael Victorino said. “We are doing everything we can to assist those in our community most impacted by COVID-19. Please be courteous and allow those who have lost jobs and income to receive these donations, so they can feed their families during this difficult time.”

The distribution is a joint effort with VIP Foodservice, Mahi Pono, Maui Chemical, Matson, Aloha Waste Systems, Inc. and the County of Maui.

The South Maui Community Park Gymnasium can be accessed from Liloa St. Residents who are not attending the food distribution are asked to avoid the areas of Liloa St. and Lipoa St. during this time, as traffic will be impacted.

Approximately 300 bags of produce will be available for Wailuku residents, 300 for Kahului residents and 300 for South Maui residents. Bags will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis.

Salvation Army helping with distribution of donated items for COVID-19 response

The Salvation Army of Maui County, working with member agencies of Maui Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster, is providing logistics and redistribution of donated items for COVID-19 response among the various island communities across Maui County.
