County Offers Women’s Leadership Conference Scholarships

The County of Maui Committee on the Status of Women is offering scholarships to young women who wish to join the more than 1,000 Hawaii women that will gather at the 8th Annual International Women’s Leadership Conference (IWLC) this fall in Waikiki.

This year the conference is being held at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel and Resort on September 20, 2011. The scholarship being offered will pay for airfare, transportation, registration fees, and lunch.

Hawaii women from the fields of business, marketing, media, health care, government, international relations, and community service will gather at the conference and seek inspiration from women leaders from throughout the world.

Speakers this year include, but are not limited to the conference founder and former Hawaii Governor Linda Lingle; Elim Chew, founder and president of 77th Street, the leading streetwear fashion and accessories retail chain in Singapore; Marty Evans, President of the Girl Scouts of America; Chief Master Sergeant Denise M. Jelinski-Hall, the Senior Enlisted Leader for the National Guard Bureau; and author, columnist, and acclaimed executive, Carolyn Kepcher, a former Executive Vice President at the Trump Organization, who served as one of Mr. trump’s advisor’s on the television series “The Apprentice.” 

Application deadline is August 15 and interested parties should include the following: 

• Include a personal statement explaining why you would like to attend the conference.
• Include your name, address, telephone number, school name, and the leadership activities that you have participated in.
• Consideration will be given to students with the greatest financial need, so applicants should address this in their personal statement.
