At the start of the pandemic, DTL (detail) launched an Actions of Aloha initiative to inspire love and remind us that aloha knows no bounds. What began as a social media challenge, quickly transpired into a deck of cards with 50 different acts of compassion and kindness to show aloha to oneself, family, community and world.

On Lā Kūʻokoʻa (Nov. 28), DTL introduced a second deck of Actions of Aloha cards with 100% of the profits from the sale of these cards committed to Waimea Valley.

In less than one month, Actions of Aloha sold 2,000 cards and raised $10,000 for the non-profit organization, Hiʻipaka LLC, to support the preservation of the historic Waimea Valley.

“We are very grateful to DTL Hawai‘i for nominating us as the recipient of their Actions of Aloha — we are big fans of the cards and the message of aloha they spread to all,” said Richard Pezzulo, Executive Director of Hi‘ipaka LLC Waimea Valley. “Like many other non-profits in Hawai‘i and all over the globe, it has been a very challenging year. Thankfully there are organizations and companies like DTL Hawai‘i that are finding ways to support local and important cultural sites like Waimea Valley.”

Waimea Valley is a spiritual wahi pana (storied place) and home to one of the most distinguished priesthoods in the Hawaiʻi. Through Hiʻipaka, cultural and historical sites of Waimea Valley are preserved and maintained and educational programs celebrate the rich history of this ʻāina. There are also more than 300 acres of botanical gardens.

“We are so appreciative to all those who bought cards and made this donation possible,” said Mālia Ka‘aihue, DTL President. “We know this gift will help operations at Waimea Valley as they work to perpetuate Hawai‘i’s past, steward the present and plan for a prosperous and healthy future.”
