Maui Humane Society’s Program Distributes 30,000 Pounds of Pet Food
The Maui Humane Society’s community support program, 4EverPets, has distributed 30,000 pounds or 15 tons of pet food to families in need, according to the organization.
The program has reportedly been distributing food and supplies to pet owners in need over the last eight months, according to an organization newsletter. The program assists both low-income families and those experiencing financial hardship and need help caring for their pets.
“Our goal is to help provide the resources needed in order to prevent people from having to surrender their pets to the shelter and allow their animal companions to remain in a loving home,” according to the organization website.
The Maui Humane Society continues to report increases in surrendered animals due to the cost of medical care, followed by owners moving off island or to housing that prohibits pets.
