Update: (9:49 a.m. 2.4.21) The National Weather Service has canceled a winter weather advisory that was in effect for the summit of Haleakalā on Maui.

“A cold front is moving east of the state. While a few snow showers are possible today on the high summits of the Big Island, significant snowfall is not expected. Ice on the highest elevations of Haleakalā is melting, and additional winter weather is unlikely,” according to the NWS forecast.

The wintry weather left a blanket of snow over the summit of Haleakalā on Wednesday afternoon, resulting in the closure of the road leading to the summit. Rangers say the road will remain closed until conditions improve.
