There is no tsunami threat to Hawaiʻi following a preliminary magnitude 7.1 earthquake reported at 4:07 a.m. HST on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2021, near the east coast of Honshu Japan.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says that based on all available data, a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat to Hawaiʻi.
The US Geological Survey reports that the quake occurred at a depth of 50.6 km (31.4 miles) and was located:
