June is “Aloha Pride Month” in the County of Maui
Mayor Michael Victorino and Maui County Community & LGBTQ+ liaison, Darlene Endrina presented the “June is Aloha Pride Month” proclamation to Jim Doran, president of Aloha Pride Maui on Friday.
“The proclamation recognizes that every citizen has rights to experience equality and freedom from discrimination and that Pride Month supports Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ+) communities that contribute to Maui County’s cultural, civic and economic success,” according to information provided by the County of Maui.
Also participating in the proclamation ceremony were Maui Police Department liaisons Officer Kalani Miles and acting Lieutenant Kaena Brown, Valerie Clark of Aloha Maui Pride and Maui Equality Coalition, and Paul Tonnessen of the Family & Children’s Justice Center.
The County Building was also lit in rainbow colors last night and the rainbow flag will fly in front of the Kalana o Maui building throughout the month of June in celebration of Aloha Pride Month in the County of Maui, serving as a reminder “to extend aloha to all.”
