Kīhei Man Arrested After Allegedly Attempting to Break into Apartment

A Kīhei man was arrested and charged with first degree assault on a police officer after he was confronted for allegedly attempting to break into an apartment. Police have since identified the suspect as 51-year-old Scott Johnson of Kīhei.

The incident was reported at around 6:41 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 26.

Upon arrival, an officer contacted Johnson, but police say he did not respond verbally and began to leave the scene. According to police reports, “Johnson became physically combative when police tried to detain him, and refused to comply with the officer’s directions.”

Police say Johnson struck the officer in the face with his elbow before being detained. The officer sustained minor injuries and was treated and released on the scene.

The occupant of the apartment told police that Johnson attempted to enter stated that the man was not invited or welcome at the residence.

Johnson was arrested and charged with: one count of first degree assault on a police officer; one count of second degree attempted unauthorized entry into a dwelling, one count of resisting arrest, and one count of disorderly conduct. Bail was set at $2,300.

Johnson was also placed under arrest for an outstanding federal warrant from Arizona and is awaiting extradition.
