The Piʻilani Highway in Kaupō is closed from Mile 19 to Mile 21 due to flooding.

Update: 8:33 a.m., Jan. 16, 2024

As of 8:33 a.m., Maui police have closed South Kīhei Road from North Kīhei Road to Kūlanihākoʻi Street due to flooding at multiple intersections. Motorists should avoid the area.

At 8:01 a.m., Maui police issued a road closure notice saying Hāna at Hanakai is closed due to heavy flooding.

At 7:01 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024, the state Department of Transportation reported that traffic signals are flashing at:

  • Hāna Highway and Baldwin Ave., (back in service as of 7:31 a.m.)
  • Honoapiʻilani Hwy. and Hoʻohui Rd., (back in service as of 11:57 a.m.)
  • Hāna Hwy. and Hoʻokele St. (back in service as of 11:57 a.m.)

Motorists should treat the flashing signals as an all-way stop. Technicians are responding.

There are also reports of flooding on roadways. Motorists should drive with caution.

Earlier this morning, police closed South Kīhei Road between Kaonoulu Street and Ohukai in South Maui due to heavy flooding on the roadway. The closure went into effect at 7:26 a.m. The west-bound lanes of South Kīhei Road are also closed at Kūlanihākoʻi Street due to heavy flooding in the area.

At 8:28 a.m, Maui police also announced the closure of South Kīhei Road (73 S. Kīhei Road) in the area of Uwapo Street due to flooding.
