Volunteer Day at Keālia Wildlife Refuge, May 18
The Maui Nui Marine Resource Council will partner with Keālia National Wildlife Refuge staff to remove invasive plant species that threaten to overgrow and crowd out native plants along the Boardwalk. Volunteers will meet at the Keālia NWR Visitor Center at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 18 and carpool to the first entrance of the boardwalk for the volunteer day. The workday will conclude at 11 a.m.
Keālia staff will provide hand gloves and other necessary tools for the day, but volunteers are asked to bring their own sun protection and a water bottle. Volunteers should plan to wear cool, comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes.
Space is limited to the first 30 volunteers to sign up.
Organizers say this day will not be suitable for young children or anyone with health conditions/concerns that may be worsened by working in the heat.
