Hoapili Teacher Pathways: Offering free courses for aspiring teachers in Fall 2024
Hoapili Teacher Pathways is launching a new initiative aimed at graduating seniors and individuals aspiring to become teachers. This fall, students can take free courses designed to bridge them to teacher licensure programs, helping to meet the increasing demand for qualified educators.
Key program features for students include:
- Free Online Substitute Teacher Certification Course: Essential certification gets students into the classroom quickly.
- Tuition-Free Coursework: Engage in for-credit courses across various disciplines required for teacher licensure without the financial burden.
- Academic Advising: Receive personalized guidance to navigate and fulfill the requirements for teacher certification.
Participants will have access to sheltered courses, exclusive to our program, covering:
- General Education courses
- Hawaiian Language courses (accelerated sequence)
- College of Education prerequisite courses
Program Details:
- Format: All courses are offered online and scheduled after work hours to accommodate working individuals.
- Deadline: Interested individuals must apply by Aug. 1.
- Eligibility: The program is open to graduating seniors and anyone with a passion for teaching.
“The best teachers for our keiki and ʻōpio come from our communities, and we are committed to making that investment. Our goal is to remove financial barriers and create a bridge to the various teacher licensure programs in our State,” said Kahele Dukelow, vice chancellor of academic affairs at the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College.
